What does the word "Clean" Really mean?

Build Your TBR

To find books that suit you the best you first need to understand everyone's view on the word

"Clean" when it comes to books.

Fully Clean books refers to books that contain one or two kisses, not long or descriptive. This also includes the book not having inappropriate language. The books may try its best to avoid even having innuendos or suggestive language.

Some people have started also putting in another group called close-door. Now most writers who are clean will use this term. This term is more often as it reaches a broader audience and has less of a chance of being offense.

This is where searching gets tricky because close-door books can include, suggestive language innuendos, and inappropriate language. There also may be more descriptive kisses that lead to a bit more, but never gets descriptive about what might happen further. They also can be more descriptive on what they enjoy about the other person's body.

I tend to enjoy books on the cleaner side. No brash language a kiss here and there and has more emphases on getting to know the person rather than how they look. I am not here to put any other reader down, this is just my preference. It is up to you as a reader to decide what you want. This will cover a way to locate the books like I prefer.

Where to find Clean Books?

Bookstagram

Now this is the most obvious if you have social media. There are tons of Bookstagramers on Instagram who sole page is set to recommending clean books. They will give you content warnings, tell you exactly what to expect and weather is is worth the read or not. They may also suggest other Instagramers who offer the same thing.

List of Bookstagrammers to Know

This is just a small list to get you started, but there are so many others out there who love to post about the clean books out there. Trust me your TBR will grow exponentially!

Goodreads is another excellent source when looking for books. Not only can you search and find what the book contains, you will also be suggested ones just like it. Goodreads consist of real people who leave their honest review. Some reviews are more lengthy than others, these are usually good to look at as it contains more information of what you might come across.

I highly suggest using their desktop version has you can do a more in depth search. This allows you to search within in the comments for exact words. I have a set of words I always use, to help me, make sure I am getting what I am looking for.

Words to search

  • Clean

  • Close-door

  • Content

  • no spice

These words have helped me sort out books that I wouldn't read. I will warn it does not always work. Sometimes there is no reviews that use these words or they do, but once I read the book it contains something I personally do not find appropriate. Yes, I do recommend Goodreads, just be thorough with your search.

Blogs

Blogs are another great way to find the books you are looking for. These people are excited to share their knowledge on clean books. They usually are more focused on what type of books they suggest. They are also given enough room to go into more details on what content is contained in the book. These are the bloggers I usually look to when searching.

Bloggers

I would look into these see if they offer things that you like, and from there you can build your list of other bloggers you enjoy. They have list upon list of what you can read and the content.

Word Search

This isn't a new website or anything, just a little hint on how to search. Libraries, reviewers, and even Amazon have a set of key words to attract the correct audience to the books they want.

When doing hashtag searches, or sub-category it is always best to try and use the word clean. This word is now more known through systems so they have more options for searching. You can also try using the wholesome. These two word are normally paired together to give the best search results.

Know Your Authors

There are thousands of indie authors out there whose sole focus is making sure their books are kept clean. Once you find one subscribe to their newsletters. These not only give you insight into their upcoming books, they also suggest other authors with same genre and taste. They even sometimes give out free books from these authors for you try. Down below is a list of Authors I trust to get you started.

Authors

I wish I can add all the authors here, but it is such a long list you would be here for days. My reviews will include a long list of authors who I trust and you can look further into.

Conclusion

All in all it comes down to the words and authors you search for. I hope these suggestion give you a little start to your search and make it a little bit easier for you. If you have any further suggestions leave them in the comments below I would love to know more.
