Wonder Boys to the Rescue- Comfort reads

Recently I ended up with a mild case of Covid. Now as someone who loves being at home this little break from the world is nice. What is not nice? Having to curl up in bed feeling like I've been hit by a truck and hugging the medicine like it's my best friend.
I got to thinking what am I going to do with this time that I have off, what will make me feel better. Of course comfort movies! These are the best when you just need something to get you through the worst. As I start to feel a bit better, I need my comfort readings to get me through the rest. Comfort reads are like a big warm hug, you can't help but feel slightly better after reading them. This is where the Wonder Boys came in and saved my sick days.
Love in.... series by Dana LeCheminant went on the list of comfort reads. Down below I have written why each book is worth reading on even your worst days!
Why are they comfort reads!
Ok I think the tropes in these stories alone is enough to convince you that this should definitely be a comfort read. I mean come on, best friends to lovers, best friends brother, fake dating, enemies to lovers! How can you not swoon! These tropes are a real draw in because I know exactly how they are going to go, I know I am going to get my HEA.
The emotional depth. Yes these books aren't heavy on deep emotional issues, but they do delve into some self reflection of the characters. Each character works through some pretty tough emotions that someone who is in their 20's can relate to. When reading the character go through these emotions it doesn't make the book sad, but comforting. The characters work through it, putting in positives, and never making themselves a tragedy.
Third act break-up. I know there are plenty of mixed feelings out there of whether or not they should be included, but I somehow find these scenes needed for a comfort read. When there is a third act break-up that means that they have to get back together in the most dramatic way. Getting engaged? Check. Kissing in a childhood tree house? Check. I love the big endings and seeing the couples work to get back together. That moment is big when I consider what a comfort read is and this series has it!
The Wonder Boys! These are the four MMC of the series, and they definitely came to my rescue. They each have their own personality that makes each story unique. Oliver was trying to figure out how to keep moving forward, Ben had his self doubts, Cam was figuring out how to be himself, and Kit was learning that he didn't have to be stuck in one space. I loved getting to know each and everyone of them. I especially loved reading how through it all they worked hard in protecting the ones they loved.
Would you give these books a chance the next time you need a comfort read? Are third -act brakes good or bad? What are your comfort reads? Let me know your thoughts.
