Synopsis
West and Evie have been best friends for a very long time. Evie is 4 years younger than West. He has always treated her as an honorary sister and nothing more. But when you're young how could you not crush on your older brother's best friend especially as good looking as West. That is exactly what Evie did, even told him how she felt when she turned 18, but he didn’t return the feelings. Ouch! All's well that ends well, their friendship lasts and that crush is now buried deep, deep, deep down.
Evie is content with her life, she moved into her new home, she has a family, and is happily single. Sure, her home is slowly falling apart, she has to strive to get any type of love from her family, and her sister is happily married to her ex. Life is great.
West is done having fans hate him, his team never inviting him out and always being traded. While on his off season and in the middle of trade he has time to see all that he has been missing out on. He realized justs wants to be back with family, and Evie.
To prove to the new NBA coach he is worth keeping, he needs a fake fiancé to showcase his newfound stability. No one is better than the woman he trusts the most, Evie.
Evie really wants to helpWest, and like she said her crush is nowhere to be found, but it is a lot harder than she thought. Now West is paying attention, doing things for her that “just a friend” wouldn’t do, caring for her in the kind way, and supporting her in all that she decides. Is it possible to trust West to recuperate her feelings, love her the way she deserves?
Well we all know how these fake relationships go, and there is nothing wrong with this ending.
Review:
I truly do love men in sports and this is the first I've read where the main MMC is in the NBA and I am not disappointed.
Likes:
West’s whole personality is not just the fact that he plays basketball. He plays basketball and yes that is a big motivator in his choices, but he lives to be with his family and has his own emotional baggage to work through. West is written as a 3 dimensional character with so much depth, it is easy to want to be friends with him and want to continue to get to know him.
Evie is also a well built character. She starts off by seeming a bit like a people pleaser and it seems like she is willing to be anything for anyone, but she grows, oh she grows. I think it is easy to relate to Evie, when you’ve been through a bad relationship and that is all that you know, it becomes hard to identify what real love is. Through the story, Evie begins to put distance between her and her dysfunctional family. This allows the opportunity for West and his family to show Evie what she is really worth.
The separation between Evie and her family is a great storyline and gives the opportunity to show growth between multiple characters.
The Hated side characters:
Evie’s ex-fiancé is on a whole other level of being a jerk. I truly hated him, that says alot about how he is written because I rarely hate characters. He not only treats Evie in the worst possible way, but tries to justify his actions and get this wants to be friends. What?! Oh! I won’t give too much away, but he tries to reach out to her on HIS WEDDING day! NOO, this man deserves all that is dealt to him in this book.
Evie’s Step-sister she is a mediocre side character. DOn’t get me wrong she is evil as well, and helps move the plot along. I just feel she is a bit more one-dimensional. There wasn’t much given about her where I can build sympathy nor was there any writing on her growth. The book begins with you hating her and ends with the feeling that you should sympathize with her even though we aren’t given a good reason too. Hopefully if this does turn into a series we will get the chance to learn more about her.
The Fake Dating:
It may never happen in real life, but deeply loved trope Fake dating. I love stories with fake dating because it gives characters the opportunity to give a chance to romance they may never have thought of before and this is exactly what happens with West and Evie.
Evie is the more hesitant one with good reasoning, but West, my man, knows how to love. It is wonderful how their relationship is written. They both support each other to no end, showing love by their actions.
Conclusion:
Sophie Irving knows how to write a good storyline that does not drag out. The relationships are well written and built. The characters have depth and emotions, making it easy for the reader to attach to them. Great read to pick up for this summer.

Memorable Quotes
I smile sheepishly, "My Extra Head is supposed to be my advantage over Rob."
She can have all the time she needs . I will just sit here and relive Evie standing up for me to Mrs. Langford.
But he turns his head away, trailing a kiss across my temple. His hand takes mine under the blanket and squeezes."Evie" he says my name like a prayer.
